‘Twas the Night Before the Cert Test

As some of us work to cram in one more exam before the end of the year, we thought a riff on a holiday classic might inspire you to study just a little more before the big day. Happy Holidays!

‘Twas the night before cert test,

And all through the web,

The learners were hoping

Content stayed in their heads.

Most were quite sleepy,

But none touched their beds,

While visions of certificates

Danced in their heads.

While in my house,

I had been pacing

Dreading the cert

I soon would be facing.

My spouse was speechless,

My nose in my books,

And comments to me

Drew unfriendly looks.

Surrounded by notes

And paper all crumpled,

My eyes bloodshot,

While cert terms I mumbled.

I drained all the coffee

And brewed a new pot,

No longer caring

That my nerves were so shot.

I stared at my notes,

But my thoughts were all muddy

My eyes went a blur,

I just couldn’t study.

When all of a sudden,

Our door opened wide,

And Patron Saint Put-It-Off

Ambled inside.

His spirit was careless,

His manner was mellow,

He looked at the mess

And started to bellow:

“Why should us students

Make such a fuss

About what those trainers

Toss out to us?”

On brain dumps! On CliffsNotes!

On last year’s exams!

On wing it and sling it,

And last minute crams!”

But I with my Nuggets

Would need no such thing

With CBTN by my side,

I could confidently sing,

“On Jeremy, on Keith,

On Anthony, Shawn, and Ben,

On James, and Simona,

And Garth Schulte too!”

With trainers like these

How could I fail?

I committed and learned all;

This cert I would nail!

My message now clear,

All doubt vanished from sight,

And I heard myself laughing

All through the night.

“Be committed, work hard,

And practice; do your best

Happy Certs to all,

And to all, a good test!”

Hopefully, you’ll never experience a visit from the patron saint of procrastination. Set up realistic training goals, stick to your schedule, get as much hands-on experience in the subject, and you’ll be sure to conquer your next exam.

Happy Holidays, and good luck on your next cert exam!
